Known as the Garden City, we will arrive in time to enjoy a walk through the historic Botanical Gardens and you can savour a gourmet picnic alongside the banks of the tranquil Avon River. Then settle into the luxury of our touring vehicle as we drive across the Canterbury Plains towards the towering Southern Alps. We will arrive in Methven, a quaint rural town at the foothills of the Alps and check in to your well appointed accommodation. The afternoon has a choice of activities. Take an exhilarating jet boat tour up the spectacular Rakaia River, a personal 4WD photography tour or a world class fly fishing experience in the backcountry lakes and streams of this incredible region. In winter, the Mt Hutt skifield is close by. Settle back into the luxury of our touring vehicle as we pass along the foothills and into the wide open spaces of the MacKenzie Country. This World Heritage listed “Dark Sky” area is world renowned for its extremely low levels of light pollution, and this evening you are set to experience a dazzling display of stars, through a tour of the Mt John observatory. Your dinner and accommodation this evening is in a private lodge on the shores of Lake Pukaki.
